Easy instructions for sewing rustic-style Christmas tree decorations

Dear community,
in this blog post you can find easy instructions for sewing rustic-style Christmas tree decorations.

BERNINA-Adventskalender 2014 : Anleitung Crazysterne

Now that we’re approaching the end of the Advent period I would like to show you how to make very rustic-style Christmas tree decorations.

I’ve already shown you the Crazy rose stitching technique Today we can sew stars and hearts with this pattern, but without a paper backing.

Crazy stars sewing instructions:

Material :

Lots of remnants – I used red tones

Matching sewing thread

Wool for stuffing

We begin again with the irregular middle sections. For this there are 6 pieces and the stitching is quicker and easier:

Lay the first stripes next to each other to see how they look, stitch them together and trim off the excess from the bottom seam allowance:

Continue in this way. The middle section has at least 5 corners and no right angles, the stripes are not laid parallel to each other and not at right angles either.

After the first one is done, iron it; before that pressing with your fingers is enough:

When the Crazy part is big enough to fit over the template:

Plot the pattern and cut it out with a seam allowance:

Now lay the cut out star onto a second Crazy part – wrong sides together – and stitch around the edges with the machine or with small running stitches – this suits the rustic theme perfectly – leaving a small opening free for the stuffing.

After stuffing, close this seam:

Sew a button into the middle of both sides, pull it tight, attach a piece of tape for hanging, and, if you like, snip into the open seam allowances – like for the Rag Time Quilt.

The Crazy hearts and Crazy stars are ready:

If you don’t have time for complicated sewing, you can also stitch these stars and hearts out of linen, either with the machine or with small running stitches. This looks very good with old linen and is very quick:

Yours,

Wiebke

Thank you Wiebke. I think Matthias has been busy today as the link was not red this morning when I looked. Merry Christmas!
