Sew a simple scarf

scarf

I made this very simple scarf for my daughter. You may have seen other versions around Pinterest, I don’t know who the clever person was that thought of the idea in the first place, but I think it’s genius.

It’s made from a couple of rectangles of fabric, a button and a loop and that’s it.

How to make one

  • Determine the size of your rectangles (this would be personal preference).
  • Sew the button into position on the right side of your outer fabric. (Again, personal preference how tight you want it around the neck).
  • Pin a loop into position at the centre of the opposite end.
  • With right sides together, sew around the edge with a 1cm seam allowance, making sure you sew over the loop several times to keep it secure. Leave a small opening for turning.
  • Turn right side out.
  • Topstitch around the whole of the scarf, making sure you tuck in the seam allowance at the small opening.

That’s it, you can’t get much more simple than that, and look how awesome it looks.

skirt pocket

The skirt is made from sweatshirt fleece and has a curved hem to give it a sporty feel.

I added a pocket at the back with a fold over detail and a red button to match the scarf.

At the side I added a fake pocket, it’s just a flap really, for aesthetics not function.

My daughter loves her new outfit, it’s comfortable and playful and very quick to make. Why not try making one for a little girl in your life?
