Pictogram Project by Tilly de Harde

Dear Readers,

Tilly de Harde asked me to publish her pictogram project and it is really a pleasure for me. Please have a look on her beautiful project andher description:

Fabric Mosaic

You will see that there is no deep meaning or inspiration to my artwork. I thoroughly enjoyed making it and sometime one just wants to be creative and play around with fabric and enjoy creating something without thinking too much about it.

As a fibre artist, I like exploring new techniques and combining ‘different’ fabrics. The colour of the felt was very uninspiring but I like the contrast between the 100% cotton turquoise fabric and the mustard-coloured felt.

I used a technique which I call Fabric Mosaic, to prepare the backdrop for the pictogram figure that is universally recognized as female.

All the decorative stitches were made using my Bernina Aurora and as I liked the background so much, I didn’t want to overpower it with a strong, solid pictogram so I used organza and Angelina fibre for the main figure.

The smaller figures were digitized and embroidered in subtle colours.
