Opening of the new BERNINA Creative Center in Bangalore

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending the opening of a new BERNINA Showroom and Creative Center at Tsala Studio, Bangalore, the southern mega-city of India. I also had the opportunity of conducting the first workshop at Tsala Studio. It was a wonderful and a memorable trip!

Leela Cherian, one of the leading Art quilters of India was the chief guest. Her work is absolutely breth taking and innovative. She works with so much different material. I was totally floored by her.

Tsala Studio is born out of one woman’s desire to bring together quilters. An expert in hand quilting herself, Vatsala Kamath wanted to start teaching others how to quilt. A visit to the BERNINA Creative Center in Mumbai inspired her to start her own in Bangalore. ‘Tsala’ apart from being a part of her name also means – friends! And thats what Tsala Studio is for! Its the most ideyllic place for quilting friends to get together!

We had 3 workshops following the opening.

The first was conducted by me. I taught these wonderful students how to do Improv pieced curves.

The next day, Kausalya Pandit taught them how to make bags from their quilted pieces.

On the next two days Kalindi Hambir taught “Introduction to Art Quilts” a beginner friendly workshop!

When I come to the Pinterest web site. I have been seeing this bag. Would love to make it, also what type of fabric do I use/and to make it stand alone. Please send pattern, or where do I download?

      Dear Marie,
I sadly dont know which pattern they used, but there is a blog post about another tote bag pattern from them. Maybe you could adapt this? It also shows which stabilizers to use to make it stand alone.
      Happy sewing, Ramona
