The new BERNINA 5 Series is finally available

Dear BERNINA blog readers,

I am delighted to share with you that a new generation of BERNINA sewing machines is now available: A short while ago we launched the new BERNINA models BERNINA 590, 570 QE, 540 or 535 and 500.

Some of you may have read about the new 5 Series on the website of our US affiliate. There were even a few posts on Instagram and other social media channels. All the information about the products can be found on the websites of our associates: www.bernina.com/new5series

You can find additional information and tutorials on our YouTube channel in the following two playlists:

Embroidering with the models of the new 5 Series

As always with sewing machines, the usual applies: The proof of the pudding is in the eating – you can only learn so much from lists of features on the screen! If you are curious as to what the new 5 Series has to offer, how the different models feel, and how they fare with various tasks, simply visit the BERNINA dealer of your choice and put them to the test!

Better sewing, quilting, and embroidery made easy…

… is the theme for the new 5 Series.

The B 590, B 570 QE, B 540, B 535, and B 500 are equipped with the BERNINA Hook , which until now has been used exclusively in the larger 7 Series models. The new hook system ensures the machine runs extremely quietly and sews precise stitches with speeds of up to 1,000 stitches per minute.  In addition, the bobbin holds up to 70 percent more thread than standard bobbins,  allowing you to sew or embroider for longer without interruption. The work space has also been increased on the new 5 Series: To the right of the needle, the models have an opening 215 mm wide (in the old 5 Series, the freearm was 190 mm long) and a maximum embroidery area of 400 x 150 mm.

Moreover, the machines are also equipped with several innovative features that were previously only available for higher positioned machines. The B 590 and B 500 models have the special embroidery features “Pinpoint Placement”, “Undo/Redo”, and “Group/Ungroup”. The B 590 and B 570 QE models are equipped with the BERNINA Dual Feed. All the machines can embroider and are equipped with an automatic thread cutter, a 4.3 inch touch screen with drag & drop function, and loads of accessories.

Below I will give you a brief introduction to the four models.

BERNINA 590

The BERNINA 590 is the top-of-the-line in the 5 Series and an expert in all disciplines, from sewing to embroidery and quilting. Among other things, it offers 1774 stitch patterns and 275 embroidery designs. The embroidery module is part of the package.

BERNINA 570 QE

The QE stands for Quilter’s Edition, which sums it up perfectly: This model is ideal for patchwork and quilting. The B 570 QE comes equipped with the BERNINA Stitch Regulator and the Patchwork foot #97, which means quilters can practice their hobby with the utmost comfort and precision. The stitch package contains 1450 stitch patterns, including 450 decorative stitches and 73 quilting stitches. The embroidery module is available as an optional extra for this model.

BERNINA 540 und BERNINA 535

The BERNINA 540 and 535 models each come with 1048 stitch patterns and are optimally suited for sewing clothing, accessories, and home decor projects. The B 540, with a stitch width of 9 mm, is particularly suitable for decorative sewing, while the B 535 is ideal for handling fine materials with its 5.5 mm stitch width. Like the B 570 QE, both of these models can be equipped with an embroidery module.

BERNINA 500 Embroidery

The B 500 is strictly an embroidery machine. It offers 275 integrated embroidery designs, eight embroidery alphabets, and numerous comfort features previously only available on the 7 Series machines.

Experts are talking about us …

… what could be better? For the launch of these new products, we are collaborating with well-known textile designers who are acting as ambassadors for our brand. Before I start boring you with another long list of innovative product advantages, I’d rather let these experts have a say.

Are you familiar with Yaya Han? The American, who is of German-Chinese parentage, has already been introduced on this blog – and now you know why she was visiting us in Steckborn. She is an international star of the cosplay scene. With the aid of her sewing machine, she creates costumes of characters from comics, computer games, films, and TV series, slips into their roles at conventions, and reaches an audience of millions via her social media channels.

What does Yaya Han like about her B 590? It’s quite simple: everything! From the robust handling and high needle piercing power to the high speeds that allow her to make elaborate costumes quickly and efficiently. The machine’s embroidery function plays a leading role in her workshop, as you can see here:

Quilt designer Suzy Williams, AKA Suzy Quilts, tells us: “I feel like a pro when I use the B 570 QE.” The designer has been quilting for more than 16 years and relies on the B 570 QE. She explains her choice in our video: “I really like getting into the quilt zone. I like fast, regulated stitches. And I know I can always count on that.”

The Winter Olympics are running. Hopp, Dario, Lara, Laurien, Beat, Michelle, and Wendy! Okay, we won’t begrudge our northern and eastern neighbors a few medals, especially in sledding. The Swiss professional sailors Livia Naef and Nelia Puhze are already thinking further ahead. They are training for the 2020 Summer Games in Tokyo. When they aren’t holding onto a tiller or ropes, the ambitious sewing enthusiasts pick up a needle and thread. “Sewing is easy with my BERNINA”, says Nelia. “Even if you aren’t a professional seamstress, you can easily guide the material and get a beautiful, perfect seam.”

Now, we would be especially delighted if we could convince as many of you as possible of the quality of our machines so that we could make you all BERNINA ambassadors! If you would like to join Yaya, Suzy, Livia, and Nelia, make an appointment for a sewing or embroidery trial at your local dealer and let us know what you think. We can’t wait to hear your experiences. Please understand, however, that we can’t invite all of you back to Steckborn to shoot videos, even though we would like to :-).

Best Regards,

Tamara

I am looking for an embroidery silhouette of a ringette player or hockey player or skates. Anything?

Love the video with Livia and Neila, the aspiring Olympic sailors representing Sweden.  I am a catamaran racing sailor and believe I have met them here in the USA at an Olympic qualifying event.  Sailing is a very big sport outside the USA.  Loving the sailing designs they stitched out – are those included in the machine?
