I have a pattern in an easy T-shirt model, no darts, no problems, and finished in 2 hours.
What do I need for a summer shirt with biastape finishing:
- A fresh light weight cotton
- Biasbinding in 3 cm cut out of the same fabric (cut it on the bias).
- Het biasbinder attachment 87 (it is meant for prefold binder, but I use it for unfolded tape and it goes fine).
- Stabilizing tape.
- TheBERNINA 710 and BERNINA L 460
You’re not used to work with the biasbinding attachment?
Watch the video and I can tell you it is a very practical accessory! You need to be sure you take the right measure binding for each attachment. I’m very satisfied using unfolded binder with the attachment 87.
Let’s start:
I cut the pattern out of the fabric. For the neck and armhole, I don’t need to cut a seam allowance, because of the finishing with biasbinder.
I check the measure of neck and armhole and cut the binder with the rotary cutter for extra precision.
All edges to be finished with the binder get seam stabilizer tape:
There’s no elasticity in the tape, because it is mean to prevent seams from stretching. You will see that there are little folds while ironing and that’s no problem.
I close one shoulerseam and overlock it, topstitch if you like to.
Then I put biasbinder on the armhole and take care you put your fabric deep enough in the fold of the attachment. It ‘s practical to decrease speed.
I go on with the neckhole and close the other shoulderseam. Now it’s time to stitch the last binder to the other armhole.
And now there’s only the sideseams to close and the bottom seam to iron and stitch.
