Hello my sewing friends… I have a very special project for you today. Since it’s Halloween and I really enjoy anything Halloween themed I thought I’d surprise you with this little make. 

Every now and then I need an “easy” project to remind me why I love sewing so much. Everything just feels so natural while sewing – perfectly in tune with everything. 

As a sewing pattern I chose the Miette skirt by Tilly and the Buttons. It’s a wrapskirt but one that has the wrap on the back. 

Here is a closer look at the fabric I chose. It’s an Alexander Henry cotton quilting fabric called “Unhappy Hour”.

Can you make out all the dreadful characters in there? It’s spectacular.

The pattern marks the grainline as parallel to the sideseams but since I want a “straight” print in the front I changed the grainline to be parallel to the center front seam. 

For the back I used the existing piece as a pattern for the second back piece. So they match perfectly.

To match my pockets I layered them on top of the skirt front piece and copied the underlying pattern on my pattern piece. Then I could match it up with my fabric…

And of course – as a sign of the times – I cut out a matching face mask.

You start by attaching the pocket facing to the pocket and then turning them inside out.

Pin the two pockets onto your skirt front (you can baste as well) and then sew the center front pieces together.

All the skirt pieces are sewn together…

Next move on to the waistband and the waist-ties. Basically you just sew them together in the right order. Turn the ends inside out and press.

Attach your waistband to the skirt and all that’s left to do is hemming.
