It is easy to sew a scarf as bib for adults and it is a stylish solution for persons who have difficulties with food and meals. The pattern is easy and you finish it in an evening.
The supplies:
- Middleweight cotton, easy to wash. Cut 28 cm (seams are included).
- 2 buttons
- BERNINA 740
- Zigzag hemmer foot # 66 (6mm)
- Sewing thread Mettler Seralon
- 10 cm non fringing tape
The pattern for the scarf:
Look at this sketch of the pattern. The sizes include seam allowances (for the long sides I took 1,5 cm, for the double folded seam):If you make several at once, you can cut them without fabric loss. You will have to sew a seam in the neck.
Fold the fabric and measure and measure 18,5 cm on the fold.
Iron 2 x 2 cm at the short side.
Draw the shape and cut the scarf.
Sew the scarf:
Pin a strip of the tape on the inside of the scarf. Measure a 35 cm from the neckfold for the buttonhole and a 36 cm for the button.
With the zigzag hemmer foot 6 mm #nr 66, it is easy to sew the seam neat and easy.
Fold the ironed short bottom seams and sew.
Position the buttonhole on the right side of the scarf at 2 cm from the corner. Use Buttonhole foot with slide #3A
The buttonhole in the middle is to be made on the stabilizer tape.
Open the button hole with the buttonhole chisel.
Sew the button at the bottom at 5 cm from the side. It gives a functional overlap.
You’re ready to sew the scarf as a bib for adults. It’s very useful and stylish at the same time.
Is there a download for the adult scarf/bib
Hi Jane, there’s not really a download. If you look at the sizes mentioned in the blogpost, and watch the sketch, you will be able to draw the pattern on the fabric. It doesn’t really need to be exactly the same. Just very handy that you make the scarf narrow in the neck. It helps to fall down nicely. I hope you can find out with the sketch.
