Free Motion Machine Couching the Tree of Life
WHAT INSPIRED ME
Trees and all the texture of the bark, the leaves and just everything about trees are just so inspiring. Of course the Tree of Life attracted my attention long ago because of its lovely flowing lines therefore it just had to be incorporated it into my work! This work was created on the Bernina Q24. The Bernina 770 was used to sew the facing on.
MATERIALS USED
Batik for the background.
Two layers of Loomtex batting.
Backing in a suitable colour.
THREADS USED TO QUILT
All the neon coloured Isacord threads in shades of red ranging from yellow right through to red were used to do the grafitti quilting and are listed below:
Isacord 0501
Isacord 1120
Isacord 1106
Isacord 1306
Isacord 1900 (This one is not neon but it worked nicely with the above colours)
YARN USED TO COUCH
For couching the tree, merino wool from One Of a Kind Yarn.
FEET
Ruler foot #72 with couching inserts was used for couching however, the adjustable stippling foot #73 was used for all the graffiti quilting on the background.
Foot #97D was used to sew the facing on.
