Add some detail to an old blouse

Welcome to another up cycling project!

In this post I want to share with you a simple hack to add some detail to an old blouse.

I am using a blouse which I got at a thrift store but this method can be applied to any old garment that you may have.

The blouse on this tutorial is made out of a see through fabric and has flower details on it. It’s 90% cotton/ 10% polyester and in between the flower details the weave is very open so I had to be careful not to damage the see through areas.

I was able to manage this by using a size 3.6 regular stitch to avoid the sewing stitches pulling on the fabric.

Revamping an old blouse tutorial

Materials:

Color threads (I used a variety of thread colors. You can use any left over threads that you may have)
Old blouse or garment
Sewing machine (I am using a Bernina 475 QE)

Step 1:

Gather you garment and your chosen threads. I am using this particular blouse because I love the fabric but if you are working with a plain cotton blouse simply draw some flowers onto the fabric and follow the same instructions.

Step 2:

Take the blouse to the sewing machine and stitch around the desired shapes.

In this case I am following those flowers but if you have a plain blouse you can create your own shapes by stitching them onto the garment.

Go around the flowers, move the fabric around and don’t worry about a perfect outline.

Repeat the same process with another color thread.

This is my blouse after stitching with 3 different colors.

Upcycled blouse

This is the final outcome.You can keep adding more and more detail. The sky is the limit. You can also add some hand embroidery details with a thicker embroidery floss.
