Airy, elegant and one of a kind – Today we want to sew the shirt “Sue” from our magazine “inspiration” with you:
For this shirt, you’ll need a lace fabric with a scalloped edge. Sewing with lace can be challenging, so you will find helpful tips on how to handle the sewing allowance in the pattern instructions. Finishing the sewing allowance with a fitting method will make sure your gorgeous new shirt will last.
You can download the pattern and instructions for free until August 31, 2022 in the paragraph “Download the free sewing pattern for the “Sue” shirt (August only)”. As always, you’ll have to be quick because each pattern is only available for free download in the month stated.

Sewing the shirt “Sue”
With lace fabrics, you can see the seams from the outside as well, which is why particular care is warranted here.
To ensure a nice and clean look and to prevent fraying, we used binding to finish our sewing allowance on the inside (as shown in the next picture). You will find tips for 3 different binding methods in the pattern instructions.
The different fabric thicknesses and stretch in different parts (even of the same fabric) require the use of the Walking Foot #50 or the Dual feed ( BERNINA 7 and 8 Series ).
To improve the feed, particularly on corners and edges, water-soluble stabiliser is placed below the lace fabric. The stabiliser is simply sewn too, then carefully torn away or dissolved in water.
Buttons and buttonholes on lace fabric should be avoided. In their place, we sewed on a button tape from fine cotton fabric.
Take a look at the magazine…
The pattern and sewing instructions for the “Sue” shirt appeared in the inspiration Magazine 62, featuring many inspiring projects for summer: an airy summer dress as shown below, a classy white blouse with buttons in the back, summer clothes for kids and many more.
Unfortunately, the issue 62 is now out of print. Maybe you are lucky and find it in a local sewing store! You can still buy some of the patterns and other issues of the inspiration Magazine online or have them conveniently delivered to your home.
