Advent Calendar 2022 ‒ the fifth door shows you another easy Christmas project. Let’s embroider a Christmas card, yes a special one, in a colorful style. Why did I choose for colors? I looked at the new models of sewing machines, the Kaffe Fassett edition. I have been admiring the colorfull projects and designs from Kaffe Fassett since 30 years, I think. Take a quick look at the BERNINA site to discover all about the Kaffe Fassett models.
So let’s embroider Christmas cards
What do you need for simple and fun Christmas cards?
- Checkered paper in a color you like
- Embroidery thread Mettler Poly Sheen in 6 different colors + brown
- Bobbin thread Mettler Bobbinette
- 2 layers of stabilizer, bigger than the hoop
- Temporary adhesive spray Mettler Web Bond, a rotary cutter and mat are useful
- The Large oval hoop
- BERNINA embroidery machine (mine is a BERNINA 700)
- The embroidery file Kerstkaart 2022 Christmas card in EXP, PES, JEF or HUS
How to embroider the Christmas card
Download the embroidery design. It’s made with BERNINA Embroidery Software 9.
Hoop both layers of stabilizer. If you use a lightweight paper, add an extra layer of standard printer sheet. These lines will be embroidered.
Start with the embroidery thread in the color you want to take for the first triangle. Embroider the first rectangle. It helps to position your paper.
The second line sews the paper to the stabilizer. Then embroider the rectangles one by one. At last you will take the brown color for the trunk of the Christmas tree. Change spool thread to the color you wish to take for the frame. Add the second sheet of checkered paper to the back of your project (use temporary adhesive spray to fix it). Embroidery line 10 sews it to the back of your work.
The last step is to embroider the frame to the card.
Finish the Christmas card
Take the project out of the hoop. Cut away the leftover stabilizer and paper with the rotary cutter, as close as you can to the ouline rectangles.
Trim corners as well.
Your Christmas card is ready. My wish for you is to stay healthy and to experience wonderful and fun creative sewing projects in 2023!
