A smiling young woman with a one sided ponytail and fringe stands with her rigth foot on a skateboard ramp. She carries a skateboard in her right hand, which also lies on her leg. She wears black and white sneakers, grey yoga pants and the sweater "Luna" with white, black and silver fabric. The background shows parts of a skateboard park with grafitti on the walls.

Sewing the sweater “Luna”

The short sweater features a pocket and the hem is gathered with a cord. The sweater is sewn on an overlocker, using a 4-thread overlock or a 3-thread super-stretch stitch. We used the “SabaFLEX” elastic thread from Mettler for additional flexibility of the seams.

Close up of the top part of the "Luna" sweater. It shows the white shoulders, the metallic silver pocket, black torso the black-silver-white sleeve.

After closing the shoulder seams and sewing the cuff along the neckline, the sleeve and side seams are closed in one go. This is a lot easier then inserting an already closed sleeve into a round armhole with the overlock, especially if your overlocker does not feature a free-arm.

Close up of this month's free pattern (December). The hem of the sweater "Luna" is gathered with a black cord with silver tips.

The sweater “Luna” is best hemmed with the coverstitch (overlocker or cover/chainstitch machine). Alternatively you can use a twin needle with your sewing machine. Tip: Use elastic sewing thread for hemming and topstitching the cuffs, so that the thread does not break when tightened. A narrow zigzag stitch would also be an option.
