Sometimes an idea pops up all by itself. In a charity shop I ran into a bag with a beautiful love quote, in our own dialect. It says something like ‘Of course I like you’, but there’s also a youth movement sign that I want to hide. Well, for Valentine’s day I make a heart application with open open embroidery foot 20.
Supplies for a heart application on a bag:
- A heart shaped cardboard pattern
- A leftover heavy weight red fabric
- Mettler Web Bond temporary adhesive spray
- A fabric tote bag.
- Open Embroidery Foot #20
- Mettler Seralon sewing thread
Application of the heart:
Draw the heart on the back of the red fabric and cut.
Spray with temporary adhesive spray. A great help for application projects!
Put the heart shape on the desired place on the bag.
Engage dual transport in your sewing machine, if you have this function.
Find the application stitch ‘blanket stitch’ in your sewing machine. In my BERNINA 710 it is nr 1329.
Note that the straight line is on the left. Click on the yellow i to set up the stitch. I chose the mirror function.
I think it’s best to enlarge stitchlength and make it wider.
Now I can guide along the inside of the presser foot with the needle position to the far right.
In application projects, always be sure to make symmetric stitches in corners. The stitches must be in a perpendicular direction to the fabric edge. . If necessary, lift the presser foot with the knee lifter to reposition the needle for a shorter stitch.
When you stitched all around the shape, the application is finished. That’s how fast it goes to make an application with open embroidery foot 20.
I like my ‘new’ bag. And be sure I like all of you!
