BERNINA Corporate Blog -Autumn becomes magical with the new BERNINA 990 – we’ve been promising it for a long time, but now the time has finally come! The machines are currently being delivered to dealers worldwide or have already arrived at your local retailer. This means you can now admire them in person. Or some of you might already have a B 990 at home!

Test the B 990 with the simulator now
You’re probably just as eager as I am to learn more about the brand-new B 990. A wonderful first glimpse into the easy and intuitive operation of this great machine is offered by the simulator, which you can download from BERNINA’s official website.
Once installed on your computer, you can get an overview of the many features and excellent operation of the B 990. Sewing, quilting, embroidery, or decorative stitches – with the simulator, you can explore all aspects of the B 990. The image in the center shows the machine’s screen, while the buttons on either side of the display match those on the actual machine. Give it a try! You’ll be amazed at how simple and intuitive the menu navigation is! For example, here you also have the opportunity to admire the machine’s numerous new decorative stitches and embroidery patterns.
The BERNINA team behind the B 990
The B 990 is the result of many years of development, making it a truly unique BERNINA. Since 2017, several teams at BERNINA’s headquarters in Steckborn, Switzerland, have been working on this machine. In this video, some of them talk about the journey to completion.
In the coming weeks and months, I’ll introduce you to the many features of the new B 990 through various projects and posts.
My personal highlights of the B 990
The machine is gigantic, unique, wonderful, precise, quiet, and sews and embroiders so smoothly… I can hardly decide what to talk about first. Here are some of my personal highlights of the B 990 in brief. More detailed information coming soon!
More space than ever before!
356 mm to the right of the needle provides endless sewing, quilting, and embroidery fun. The endless possibilities for embroidery designs are already making my fingers itch with excitement.
For example, this machine allows you to design and embroider ITH (In the Hoop) embroidery projects in a size never seen before. The new Giant Hoop is, of course, included with the machine! Here, Christy and Hailey from the BERNINA USA team introduce the contents of the package:

I’m also enchanted by these beautiful floral patterns. You’ll find these embroidery designs on the machine.
Quilters will also be delighted to create huge quilt patterns with the B 990. Whether “in the hoop,” i.e., in the embroidery hoop…
…or without. Thanks to the large free arm, even large quilts can be quilted effortlessly.
10-inch touchscreen
BERNINA is known for the easy and intuitive operation of its machines. With the menu navigation of the new B 990, BERNINA has outdone itself. The familiar symbols are complemented by text descriptions. You can operate the screen using the gestures you know from your tablet, the included touch pen, or a computer mouse.
The new placement scanner with camera
This feature is my personal favorite of the B 990. The B 990 can scan the hooped fabric and display it on the screen. You can then perfectly position the embroidery design on the fabric (which has been scanned and displayed on the screen).
Are you using the BERNINA Embroidery Software 9? You can transfer the scanned fabric via WiFi to the software to arrange your designs even more precisely:
In addition to this feature, the B 990 also comes with the BERNINA laser for precise 4-point placement.
You can also adjust designs through morphing, as we know from the B 790 PRO.
Automatic needle threader
With the press of a button, the needle is threaded fully automatically – faster than on any other BERNINA with this feature.

Jumbo stitches
Stitch sizes can be adjusted between 25 and an incredible 500%. This allows for unique and impressive jumbo stitches with the B 990’s sideways motion sewing.
Integrated BERNINA Stitch Regulator (BISR)
For the first time, a Stitch Regulator is integrated into a BERNINA (aside from long-arm machines). This function has been on many quilters’ wish lists for a long time. Now, the advantages of BSR quilting, which ensures perfect and even stitch lengths, can be comfortably combined with the creative possibilities of ruler quilting.
Of course, the Integrated Stitch Regulator can also be used in combination with other BERNINA presser feet or creative techniques. Where you were previously limited to the standard sole of the stitch regulator foot, countless new possibilities now open up!
But these are far from all the advantages of the new B 990 from BERNINA. More to come soon.
