Quick ‘n’ Easy Gift-Giving DIY Projects

We all know handmade gifts are the best!

We’re fast approaching the end of the year, so here’s a round up of simple DIY sewing projects, perfect for gift giving.

Small pattern pieces mean you should be able to whip them up quickly (especially if you chain piece).

Before you go out to buy supplies, be sure to raid your scraps stash first.

You might be surprised to discover what you already have to hand!

The small scale of these projects make them ideal for scrap-busting.

Plus, colour-blocking will make these gifts truly unique, and therefore all the more special.

You could even try variations of the same colour palette to gift the whole family this holiday season!

In The Folds / Fairbank Hat

For us in the southern hemisphere, December marks the official beginning of summer.

And it’s so important to be sunsmart down under, where UV levels can frequently hit extreme.

A hat is not only a practical gift, it’s also a lot of fun!

Make a regular bucket hat for a cool, laid-back style.

Or add a wide brim for extra sun protection and a touch of elegance.

Northern hemisphere, we’ve also got you covered! Make version B in snuggly fleece to beat the chill.

Or a wide brim in waterproof fabric (I’m thinking tartan?) would make the perfect rain hat.

With so many options a hat really is the perfect, customisable gift!

Motif Studio / Origami Bag

A Japanese style triangle shaped shoulder bag – this bag looks a lot more complicated than it is to make and always receives so many compliments!

This design provides a blank canvas for patchwork, or leave it neutral for effortless sophistication.

Essentially made from two rectangles (plus an extra small one for the handle) this pattern is completely scaleable, meaning you can easily create the perfect size for your loved-one.

Consider elevating this design by adding a faux-leather handle.

Or mix and match fabrics to create an eclectic and unique bag for a friend!

Makes a fantastic shopping tote, perfect for the farmer’s market.

Scrunchies

While you’re cutting out that little rectangle for your Origami Tote Bag handle, you may as well cut a few extra rectangles, grab some elastic and whip up a few scrunchies – they make great stocking fillers!

There are so many tutorials online to help you achieve the perfect size and shape.

Make them in sets in a mixture of print and plain fabrics.

The ulitmate quick ’n’ easy sewing project!

Fabric Wrap

Complete your unique handmade gifts by using fabric to wrap them instead of paper.

There are so many interesting ways to tie your fabric to achieve different finishes.

Use the same fabric as the gift inside to give your loved one a sneak peek.

Happy Handmade Holidays everyone!
