Good morning, dear ones! Today we will Sew a Valentine’s Day Envelope with a Free Pattern. It’s perfect for you if you need a little something for Valentine’s Day to hide a message. The small envelope is also ideal for holding a gift of money or business cards. It’s quick to sew, making it a wonderful gift idea.
The fabric requirements for such an envelope are minimal. This project is ideal for using up fabric scraps. Lets sew the Valentine’s Day Envelope.
Material Overview
You will need:
- Template Envelope (for private use only)
- 2 x cotton fabric, 28 x 18 cm
- 1 x fusible interfacing H250 from Vlieseline, 28 x 18 cm
- 1 x volume fleece H630 from Vlieseline, 28 x 18 cm
- 1 x snap fastener or Kam Snap
- optional: a small label or tag
A small tip beforehand: Cut the template only from the two fusible interfacings and then iron the pieces onto the left sides of the fabric as per the manufacturer’s instructions. The fusible interfacing will go on the outer fabric, and the volume fleece will go on the inner fabric of the envelope.
Next, cut the two fabrics along the fusible interfacings.
Sewing the Valentine’s Day Envelope
Place the outer fabric right sides together with the inner fabric and sew all around, leaving a small opening for turning.
When you reach one of the corners, leave the needle in the fabric, lift the presser foot, and rotate the envelope in the correct sewing direction.
Now cut off all the outer corners just before the seam allowance and make snips in the four inner corners. Turn the envelope through the opening, shape all the edges and corners nicely, and press it flat.
Now, stitch along the entire outer edge close to the edge, which will also close the turning opening. I also use the Patchwork Foot #97 of my BERNINA 790 PRO.
If you like, you can attach a small label or tag, as shown here.
Attach the two parts of the snap fastener as shown in this picture.
Then, fold the two side parts inwards and then fold the bottom part. Finally, close the envelope using the snap fastener.
Congratulations, your Valentine’s Day envelope is ready!
And because it’s so quick and – in my opinion – really cute, I made several of them.
I wish you lots of joy while recreating and gifting these,
Sara
