Sew decorations with red carpet

Sew decorations with red carpet for a maximum colorful effect and low effort. It is really a great material to work with. You find it in different bright colors. It is quite firm and doesn’t fringe. You can find it in different qualities. It is often used for commercial events and they usually throw it away afterwards. Interesting to find out if you can get some for free…

Make as many as you like for your children’s school party or for a summer event.

Look what I made with red, yellow and dark green:

Don’t use the cut thread function when sewing with dusty material. It could damage the cutting device.

How to start to sew decorations with red carpet:

Download the patterns you wish to use and cut it out. Glue it to lightweight cardboard to trace comfortably many times.

Trace the pattern and cut the parts from the carpet.

Sew from small to larger: first sew the smallest parts on the medium parts and finish by sewing the bigger parts to the background.

I chose an applique stitch for a nice look, with needle placement to the right.

The one very important tip is to constantly turn your work while you sew the stitch perpendicular to the edge of the shape. Use the kneelifter (Free Hands system) for a comfortable work.

Mind the direction of the stitch in corners, this is what the stitch in the corner should look like. Make it symmetrical:

Sew the tactile horns with a stitched zigzag stitch.

Finish the ladybug and the butterfly with eyes. You can use a decorative stitch for the eyes. I set the decorative stitch to a single pattern stitch.

After finishing an eye, I stitched over it again backwards for a nice fill.

Now, the only thing you have to do is add a cord. Sew it with a zigzag stitch from the back. Don’t forget to take a matching bobbin color.

The red carpet decorations are ready to be used. A fun project!

Clean your machine to remove dust and lint. It could be necessary.
