Sewing Mini Pouches with Free Pattern

Do you want to sew mini pouches with me? This little pouch can be made quickly and easily with a clever folding technique. I’ll show you how it’s done. Besides the free pattern, this article also includes a tutorial video.

Mini pouches are perfect as wallets for on the go, for summer, a bike tour, for small items, or for a USB stick. They also make great packaging for a cash gift or a voucher.

Sewing accessories like special sewing buttons can also fit in such a mini pouch. You can imagine, there are endless possibilities…

Check out the tutorial on sewing mini pouches with my free pattern.

Please set your printer so that the printout is not scaled but set to 100%, full size. The pattern includes a small check box that serves as a size reference.

Finished Size

The finished mini pouch measures approximately 7 cm in height and 10 cm in length.

Seam Allowances and Variations

The seam allowances of 1 cm are already included in the pattern.

You can sew your mini pouch in a minimalist style or with embellishments, such as a label, ribbons, or a small embroidery. Additionally, you can sew the mini pouch with or without a holding loop.

You can also determine the length of the loop yourself.

Sewing Mini Pouches with free pattern, the Video Tutorial

For the first time, I created the sewing tutorial as a video. I really hope you will like it. Please note that this is a premiere for me!

Materials

Fabric scraps are excellent for this sewing project.

  • Two different cotton fabrics for the outer and inner sides
  • Fabric for the loop or about 13 cm of ribbon
  • H30 or H250 interfacing (Vlies)
  • Sewing machine
  • Fabric scissors
  • Paper scissors
  • Fabric clips or pins
  • Snap buttons
  • Marking pen
  • Optionally, labels

Overview of Materials

Here is a small compilation of the items needed to sew the mini pouch.

Sewing the Mini Pouch: Outer and Inner Layers

It’s best to watch the video, which contains the instructions for this pouch. I show you how it is sewn. This project was originally made for the German Blog, so the video is in German, but I hope you can follow along with the English subtitles.

Here, I have already ironed the H30 interfacing onto the back of the outer fabric. Instead of H630 – which makes it a bit puffier – you can also use H250 interfacing.

Loop for the Pouch

The loop is pre-ironed:

Turning Opening

The markings have already been transferred to the fabrics. In the image below, you can see that parts A and B are sewn together at the bottom pocket:

Please note that the marked turning opening must remain open.

If you, like me, have sewn through it out of habit, you can open the opening again with a seam ripper.

Next, lay both pieces apart and iron the edges flat.

Folding Technique

I will show you how the pouch is folded in the video clip.

Finish

Close the sides and top, cut the seam allowance in the corners, turn the project inside out, close the opening, add the snaps, and you are finished! I sewed these minis in cheerful bright colors because I believe that colors are good for the soul. However, the color choice always depends on the recipient, I think. How will you sew your mini pouch?
