Working with the Tangram Template for the Bunny Pincushion

Cut out the Tangram template and then the individual Tangram pieces.

Arrange all 7 pieces to form the lying bunny.

Preparing the Fabrics

Select small-patterned fabrics for the individual pieces. How many different fabrics you use is up to you—an Easter bunny can be colorful! Place the Tangram pieces on the fabrics and cut them out.

Iron the double-sided fusible web onto the back of the fabric. Depending on the type of fusible web, use parchment paper to prevent it from sticking to the iron. If using Vliesofix, remove the protective paper layer after you ironed it on.

Position the Tangram pieces on the back of the fabric and cut them out using a ruler and rotary cutter. You don’t have to worry about mirroring.

Then place the Tangram Easter bunny onto the solid-colored fabric as planned and iron the pieces in place.

Raw Edge Appliqué – Sewing Along the Edge

For this pincushion, the motif has been fused in place. The raw edges are now secured with a narrow straight stitch (1.3 mm stitch length). The Appliqué Foot #23 is ideal for this type of work. Each Tangram piece is outlined individually.

The bunny motif has been framed with a double echo line.

The pincushion is almost finished. Place the front and back fabric right sides together. Sew around the edges with a 1 cm seam allowance, leaving a 6-7 cm opening. Trim the corners.

Turn the pincushion right side out, shape the corners, and press it. Fill the cushion with stuffing or batting scraps. Hand-sew the opening closed.

The little Easter bunny looks lovely in the first fresh greenery of the garden, don’t you think?

Maybe he’ll hop into an Easter nest or two. Have fun sewing!

Happy Sewing,
Jutta
