Hi there! My name is Irene from Sugaridoo. I love to design and create bright happy modern quilts. Working with fabrics gives me so much joy!

For as long as I can remember I’ve been making things and doing all kinds of crafts: crochet, knitting, origami, making friendship bracelets, cross stitching, drawing, and probably more. My mom taught me everything she knew as my grandma thought my mom.

I studied mechanical engineering, and that technical background is probably why I love to draw on graph paper so much. I love lines and all things geometric. That’s why I started to focus more and more on quilting. Drawing lines and turning them into a beautiful modern quilt is just magic!

In 2016 I decided to say goodby to my job as a engineer in the offshore industry and started working on my business Sugaridoo full time. Such a great decision! Sharing my love for quilting through my patterns and YouTube videos is what I love to do most.

At the moment I’m exploring free motion quilting, improv quilting and working with lots of colors. My favourite technique is foundation paper piecing. It’s such a fun technique with endless opportunities. So it was no surprise that my first book, the Sugaridoo Sampler, was filled with paper piecing patterns.

I’m quilting on a BERNINA 770 QE. A machine that is awesome in helping me turn all my ideas in to real quilts!
