What can you make out of denim?
What a question! Of course, you can sew almost anything out of denim. Originally, this thick cotton fabric was used to make jeans, extremely hard-wearing (work) pants. Today, denim is used for all kinds of sewing projects. Denim fabric is made into trendy items of clothing, home decor items such as pillows and book covers, accessories such as bags or purses, baby accessories and even jewelry.
Which needle should you use for denim? Which thread is best for denim?
BERNINA has a wide range of needles: www.bernina.com/nadeln. The universal needles and jeans needles are suitable for sewing denim. You can also use the latter to sew sailcloths and workwear, for general sewing projects as well as for buttonholes, for sewing on buttons and for zippers. For the thread, we recommend high-quality universal polyester thread. If you want to achieve the typical denim look, use extra-strong thread, e.g. from Mettler.
Upcycling jeans: ideas and sewing instructions
Almost everyone has some at home: jeans they no longer wear, but that are too good to throw away. This page has a range of posts devoted to the topic of upcycling jeans. In fact, practically no other fabric is as suitable for sewing new projects as denim. Denim is extremely robust and can easily be used multiple times. With a little imagination and a few sewing skills, you can breathe new life into your worn-out pants for a second time, or even a third time, to make a vest, bag, shirt or pincushion, for example. You can find inspiration on this page.

Sewing instructions and pattern for a denim dress
One of our favorite denim projects is this denim dress. It can be worn in both summer and winter (of course combined with warm tights during the colder months). We wrote the instructions in connection with the launch of a new series of machines from our brand bernette. However, you can sew the dress on any other machine that has enough punch. The instructions contain an extremely helpful series of video tutorials.
