You have probably downloaded the free pattern for August 203? You can still find it till the end of the month through this link. If you haven’t yet, there are still a few more days for the free download. Here’s the tutorial for the free girls’ dress Nahla. If you missed the free link, you can still purchase it on the Inspiration website.
Here’s more information on the embroidery: ‘Embroidery on the free dress Nahla’.
What do you need?
- The free pattern with the embroidered flowers.
- Cotton or linen fabric, 80 to 90 cm for the dress.
- Cut out the other pattern parts, iron stabilizer on the facings. I assembled both parts of the facings as one, to avoid shoulder seams in the facings. The stripe for the bottom frill is 140 cm x 16 cm. Take marks and notches.
- Sewing thread Mettler
- Overlock thread (I used Mettler Silk Finish Cotton)
- A button
- A narrow ribbon
Start to sew the dress Nahla:
Overlock the center back seams of both back pattern parts, overlock the outer curves of the facings, the shoulder seams and the sleeve seams. While I was sewing on the #BERNINA L 460, I continued with the bottom frill (which was a bit too quick, I forgot to close the stripe to a ring first). The amount of fringing depends on the weight and the quality of the fabric.
Mine was the exact fit for the dress in size 122, a coincidence!
I took thse settings for the machine. Differential feed and stitch length were set to maximum.
In the sewing instructions, you will notice you should close the ring first and then fringe afterwards.
Close the shoulder seams and the sleeve seams and iron apart.
Sew with long straight stitches along the seam allowance of the sleeve. Use this thread to gather the sleeve and fit to the armhole seam.
Pin the shoulder seam to the sleeve seam and sew together, like you would sew darts.
Will you make a rolled hem? Overlock the sleeve hem 2 cm over the markings for the side seam.
Or make a narrow stitched hem in the sleeve, that’s what I did. You will have to cut the side seam.
Sew and overlock the sideseam.
Sew the center back seam till the marking for the slit.
Pin the facings (don’t forget the tape for the button) along the neckline. Sew from the marking on one back part, over the neckline, towards the other mark for the slit on the other back part. Cut the curves and clip the corners. Overlock the seam
Finish the dress with the bottom frill.
Because I overlocked the stripe for the bottom frill before closing the seam, I have to open a few cm now, to sew it.
Pin the frill to the dress, sew it and overlock. Sew the button.
The dress is ready.
Isn’t it super cute? I hope the tutorial for the free girls’ dress Nahla helps you to make one too.
