Dear community,
in this blog post you can find detailed instructions for sewing a beautiful fabric gift bag.
The pre-Christmas period is one of the nicest of the year. Adults switch back and forth between Christmas spirit and Christmas stress, while children can hardly contain themselves with sheer anticipation.
Many people only start to wrap the presents they squirrelled away in November and December for their loved ones shortly before the big day. Of course, it is best if this all takes place secretly without other people noticing what we are doing.
Sewing machine noises provide the perfect cover for this and no-one is likely to guess that sewing machines can also be good for wrapping presents.
Have fun with my little DIY project!

You will need:
- Design elements from fabric scraps (here, for example, the fabric “Trädguld”)
- Gold or sparkling embroidery or sewing thread
- BERNINA BSR
- Coarse woven fabric
- Pretty ribbon
- A gift for wrapping 😉
Beautifully quick DIY gift bag
Beautiful packaging doesn’t always have to be expensive, sometimes the simplicity of things is enough to make an impression in itself. A combination of muted colours and a bit of precious golden embroidery thread can look very elegant.
Also, the time required to make the packaging, at under 10 minutes, is available to everyone – even just before Christmas! 🙂
So, let’s go! The last presents need wrapping quickly.
Step 1:
From your thread box, look for the most attractive Christmassy thread. A beautiful fabric with attractive design elements is fished out of the remnants box. If necessary, these can be ironed onto fusible web and cut out. For the bag itself, choose a relatively coarse woven fabric.
The coarse woven fabric is cut twice to the required size (e.g. A4 size x 2).
Step 2:
The design, or another design element, is sewn onto the front centre of the bag with the BSR. If you do not like “free-motion” sewing, you can of course also do this using different sewing feet.
Step 3:
The bag parts are laid on top of each other and sewn together with straight stitch. A charming addition to the bag is a narrow zigzag stitch.
Step 4:
If you want to, you can neaten your bag and add a drawstring. But I like my simple 10-minute version very much as it is.
