Announcing a NEW quilt along: Between the Lines

Yes, we’re doing it again! After two amazing Quilt Alongs, it’s time for part three:

In June, the third Sugaridoo X BERNINA Quilt Along will begin.

In this blog post, I can tell you all about it: what we’re going to make, which techniques we’ll be using, the first important dates, and of course, what you can win by participating.

Between the Lines

We officially announce: Between the Lines. A modern, fresh QAL with free patterns and videos!

The quilt we’ll be making consists of 9 rows and measures 55 x 66 inches, approximately 137 x 165 cm.

We’ll be using various techniques. Foundation Paper Piecing will be included, my favorite technique. But we’ll also be working with sewing quarter circles, traditional piecing, and strip piecin.

Join the QAL!

Just like in the first Sugaridoo BERNINA QAL, each block in this quilt will be made multiple times. The beauty of this is that you’ll see progress in each row! The last block will go better than the first because you’ll be repeating the same technique.

For each row, you’ll find the written patterns here on the blog. And for each row, I’ll create a YouTube video on the Sugaridoo YouTube channel. So, I’ll guide you step by step in making this quilt.

Never sewn quarter circles before? No problem! I’ll guide you from making the template to sewing the row together. You won’t need a special ruler for this.

Would you like to receive updates as soon as the blog posts and videos are online?

You can use this button on Instagram to show other quilters that you’re participating. (Save the image below to your phone to share it on social media.)

In this video, you’ll see more of the quilt, and I’ll talk about the quilt along:

Fabric kits

Between the Lines is designed with the first Sugaridoo fabric line. The fabrics from the Robo Boogie collection are now available in stores. For this Quilt Along, you can participate with one of the two kits. Of course, you can also use your own fabrics.

We can reveal that the first pattern of the QAL will be posted on June 6.

And now the giveaways. This is really fantastic to share with you. By participating in this QAL, you have the chance to win one of the three BERNINA 475 QE sewing machines!

I love the idea of a “rows” quilt using different techniques.  Since there will be a month between each row, perhaps I will actually be able to keep up!  LOL

I’ve never done a sew along and will be away on the start date hope that will not be a problem. I’m looking for forward to learning new techniques (for me) like paper piecing I’ve been quilting since 2017 ( self taught via YouTube). I’m not sure what fabrics but I’ll be ready when the time comes. Also I sew and quilt on a Bernina which I love it would be great to have another machine when my other one is being used for quilting.

I’m excited for this QAL! The half-circle row in the rainbow scheme has a zig-zag now instead of the straight line shown on your website and in the teal quilt. Is this a recent change or an option? I am thinking about bright jewel tones on a darker background, maybe a medium gray.

Well spotted! There was a change in the pattern design of that row 🙂 Excited that you’re going to quilt along.
