A quick Valentines sewing project
Ive been busy setting up my own little sewing box business ( sewmebox ) @eversewme for the past few months. My latest box that will be launched in February had me thinking of a cute Valentines idea. This is a super beginner friendly update to a preowned or freshly sewed sweater. This tutorial is perfect if you want to brighten up a simple sweater to celebrate valentines!
What do you need:
A sewing machine, I am using my B480
A small patch of fabric, preferably in a contrasting colour ( or pink like mine for valentines. )a
A small scrap of iron backed interfacing
A fabric pen / fabric chalk
To start:
Firstly draw yourself a heart on a piece of paper. They are not as easy as you-think!, to help make the shape more symmetrical, draw half of the heart, cut it out, fold the paper over and draw around the second half.
Cut the shape out and transfer the outline to the jumper using a fabric pen. I have positioned mine on the left chest.
Next Iron on a scrap off interfacing to the back side of the heart shape to stabilise the fabric and cut the heart shape out.
Positioning
Position the the fabric so that you have at least 1cm seam allowance and sew around the heart shape. Ive used some double sided tape to stop the fabric from moving when sewing.
Sew time!
When it comes to sewing, go very slowly and keep at the same distance away from the edge of the heart. I tend to use the foot of my sewing machine as a guide rather than the needle.
I sewed a second line to ensure the fabric is secure.
Hey presto, a valentines Pulli to keep you snug and cozy and show off your love!
