I had bought some beautiful Batiks from Tina Katwal sometime last year to make a quilt. When I asked her what she had, she sent me so many photographs that it was just impossible to resist! I ended up buying Fat Quarters of all the fabrics that she had in stock!
The idea of making a Modern Quilts using batik fabrics had been haunting me for quite some time. What better way to just say it!!!
I had a lot of leftovers from this quilt. While cleaning up my studio, I rediscovered them (don’t we all find that one precious fabric stashed away when we clean the studio?) last week and decided I wanted to turn these beauties into Tote Bags.
I made these yesterday and wrote a pattern for them too.
The pattern is available in PDF form here : Tote Bag
There are other tutorials also available on my blog: https://quiltershrutidandekar.wordpress.com/
Do share your projects if you make them. I’d love to share them on my Facebook Page.
Such a great bag pattern to sew. However, I would like to bring to you attention that when I clicked into your website “13 Woodhouse Road”, the website looks spammy (second picture below). It seems like a gambling site has hijacked your website if it isn’t the original content of your website.
Dear Joanne,
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Since this article is from 2015, it is likely that the domain was sold to a different company and does not belong to Shruti anymore. I just found Shruti’s Blog on a new website, though the last entry there is from 2019: https://quiltershrutidandekar.wordpress.com/category/blog/
I will replace the link here and in her profile so it forwards you to this blog. The tutorial can’t be found on that page, but luckily the pdf download here offers the tutorial as well.
Kind regards, Ramona from BERNINA International
Thank you for replacing the link. I am linking this wonderful pattern on my website.
Dear Joanne,
You are welcome, and thank you for sharing this project with your readers!
Kind regards, Ramona

Dear Barbara,
There is a link under the 3 picture. Just click on the word “Tote bag” and it will direct you to the pattern pdf. I linked it in this comment too, just in case!
