It is easy to embroider with universal sewing thread. I have done it before and today I choose for a good colour accent in a non shiny thread. So I take the set RED by Mettler Seralon. I’m taking the colours 504 and 918, right from the box. so: Embroider a mug rug with Mettler Seralon.
In the embroidery software BERNINA V8 I make a file with curved lines. I want to have an abstract line drawing, because I work with children and other designs might distract them.
You can find it here in ART 80, EXP anf PES-extension: Mug rug Seralon
It is embroidered in the Large Oval hoop on the BERNINA 700 on a double layer of white cotton fabric, without stabilizer.
I cut away the fabric to 2 cm of the embroidery pattern. With powertex textile hardener, I prevent the threads from fraying in the cutting lines.
I cut the fabric in 6 pieces:
I start playing around with the parts. After replacing them, I want to switch the middle parts upside down and cut an extra cm of the white side of the fabric.
All parts are stitched together again with a 5 mm zigzag stitch with Mettler Transfil, invisible thread, and trimmed to a rectangle. An extra layer of white cotton makes a nice backing. All three layers are stitched together now.
The finishing with biastape, attached with the biaistape attachment nr 87, gives an extra colour accent.
It finishes with an extra layer of textile hardener.
Oh, look! There’s enough place for a biscuit besides my mug or glass!
This will be a nice colour accent on my desk at work! I was glad to Embroider a mug rug with Mettler Seralon.
